Actor Dustin Clare champions ‘Spartacus’ prequel

You might think a TV series in which a character’s face is carved off and worn as a mask in a gladiator arena is all about brutality.
Dustin Clare disagrees.
Clare stars as Gannicus, champion of the House of Batiatus, in “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” (premiering Friday at 10 p.m. on Starz).
He thinks there’s more to his series than buckets of blood and wanton sex.
