August 2012 Archives   29 August 2012 Lucy Filming For Stand Up to Cancer Benefit for 7 September 2012 US Telecast Lucy just tweeted that she is filming an appearance for Stand Up To Cancer with Starz and Be Here Now (the Andy Whitfield Documentary) which will be telecast on 7 September in the US .  The September 7 telecast will air simultaneously on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, as well as BIO, E!, Encore, HBO, HBO Latino, ION Television, LMN, Logo, MLB Network, mun2, Palladia, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, Starz, Style, TBS and VH1 at 8/7 c.   Great! Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, Jessica Biel, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Tim McGraw and Stand Up to Cancer co-founder Katie Couric will all participate. Couric's husband, Jay, died of colorectal cancer in 1998. Simon Baker, Jordana Brewster, Diem Brown, Dana Delany, Chelsea Handler, Marg Helgenberger, Rashida Jones, Minka Kelly, Joe Manganiello, Jillian Michaels, Masi Oka, Ana Maria Polo, and Alison Sweeney will also take part, said the group, which goes by the abbreviation SU2C. Paltrow is executive producing with Joel Gallen of Tenth Planet Productions in collaboration with SU2C's production team. This is the first SU2C benefit not executive produced by Laura Ziskin, who died of breast cancer in June of 2011 at the age of 61. Since 2008, SU2C has donated to seven multi-disciplinary teams of researchers as well as to 26 scientists attempting high-risk, high-reward projects to end cancer's status as the world's leading killer. SU2C is partnered with the American Association for Cancer Research, which is responsible for the scientific review, grants administration, and scientific oversight of SU2C research projects along with an advisory committee led by Nobel Laureate Phillip A. Sharp, Ph.D., institute professor at the David H. He was the highest bidder in an art auction to raise funds for the costs of the Appeal Court hearing for Tame Iti and Rangi Kemara, who were jailed as a result of the Urewera raids. Bennett (above) paid $10,400 for Shane Cotton’s Land of Names. He also bought Iti’s artwork, Te Whai A Te Motu, painted in Waikeria Prison. ‘‘Manu purchased a lot of works and spent a lot of money,’’ said Ninakaye Taanetinorau, who helped organise the auction at Bizdojo Gallery on K Rd. Nearly $80,000 was raised. Meanwhile, Spartacus co-star Lucy Lawless, who is no stranger to political activism, will guest star in two episodes of NBC comedy Parks and Recreation playing a single mum. ‘‘I am always amazed by the acting and writing.
