Lucy's Dinner and Artwork Auction for Rainbow Warrior III Update + Lucy Message

ImageIt seems there was some excitement today when the auction items for Lucy's dinner and her artwork of the Lone Ranger and Tonto went up on the CharityBuzz site. It lasted for a bit and then it was removed without warning.

It seems there was a hiccup and they had to remove it but the auctions will be back up soon.

Lucy confirmed that there was a hiccup and that the dinner and the artwork will go back up soon and passed on a message to say that it was sweet of people to care!

So go to the CharityBuzz Site and watch that space for the items to come back online!

Lucy Audio Interview from NPR 9 January 2011

ImageOn January 9, 2010 Lucy was interview by NPR. Lucy Lawless is kind of like King Midas, but for nerds: pretty much every sci-fi or fantasy thing she touches turns to gold. Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica are true classics — the kinds of programs nerds will tell their children about … if they ever manage to reproduce.

Lawless is starring in the new Starz program Spartacus: Blood and Sand, which guarantees that pasty people will be dressing up as its characters at conventions for decades to come.

We’re asking Lucy to play a game called “We didn’t have the chance to say thanks.” Three questions about great American innovators who died recently.

New Spartacus: Gods of the Arena Promo with Interviews in Italian - Updated with Translation

This appears to be a behind the scenes Gods of the Arena shot for Italian TV with the voice being Italian but it also has Liam McIntyre, Katrina Law, Dustin Claire and Lucy Lawless. From what the actors are wearing it appears that the interviews were conducted during Comic Con in July. Barbara Bruno has translated the interview portion from the original Italian to English for AUSXIP. Many thanks to Barbara for that!

Here's the video:

Spartacus Gods of the Arena

Even the successful show Spartacus Blood and Sand has a prequel.
This is the special video I made for Sky 1:

Here's the Translation:

Spartacus is back... with a new thrilling season. Spartacus: Gods of the arena!!

The House of Batiatus and his ruthless gladiators before the arrival of Spartacus.

The rise of Crixus. How Oenomaus became Doctore.
The relationship between Batiatus and his father...
...and his first successess.

The dreams of glory and freedom of the gladiators. The dreams of power and lust of the patricians and their women.

Spin Off and prequel of the beautiful and lucky show Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena contains the explosive themes that made great the first season, but plus scandalous backstages and new intriguing characters.

The Champion of Batiatus' Ludus is Gannicus.

snapshot 001DUSTIN CLARE- GANNICUS
Gannicus is the antihero. By playing him, I wanted him to be a very different character from Spartacus, even if deeply in his heart is very sensible.

snapshot 002LUCY LAWLESS- LUCRETIA
In the prequel, you can see how Lucretia trusts people and tries to protect her slaves, but then something ruins everything to the rebellion. And her capacity to love vanishes away.

DUSTIN CLARE- GANNICUS
It is a fight for survival. In every moment, each character may die. The characters disappear from the series in a brutal and sudden way.

DUSTIN CLARE-GANNICUS
You can never be sure if your character will live or die.

Gods of the arena will be a new big hit, in the world and in Italy...

LUCY LAWLESS-LUCRETIA
I would love to be famous in Italy
... for several reasons.

snapshot 003MANU BENNETT-CRIXUS
Many people that work in the series have already worked in big productions movies like Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia and many other movies with lots of special effects.

snapshot 004KATRINA LAW
The graphic novel style makes the violence in Spartacus attractive.

KATRINA LAW
The blood splatters are treated in a non-realistic way and exalt the audience, while the sex scenes are so explicit and so realistic to give the shivers.

LUCY LAWLESS- LUCRETIA
This is what attracts immediately.

LUCY LAWLESS- LUCRETIA
But we must add drama, intrigues, danger, passion and heroism to support the show, otherwise the audience would be disappointed with the same facility.

snapshot 005LYAM MCINTYRE- SPARTACUS
Violence, sex and all the rest make this show really interesting, but the story holds on power plays and how the character change according to their relationships.

LUCY LAWLESS- LUCRETIA
It is the most complex show and you will be sucked into it

The Flick Cast Interviews Steven DeKnight

Writer Steven S. DeKnight has got more than enough geek cred to bring any doubtful idea to a new level of excellence even when most other writers would choke under the pressure.

The man has worked with Joss Whedon in the Buffyverse and Angelverse, taken on young Superman in Smallville, and now he’s getting his blood and iron on with Spartacus.

Season 2 is starting up soon and Steven gives us some insight on how exactly they can pick up after the epic season 1 finale, and how difficult it was switching from Andy Whitfield to new star Liam McIntyre.

About.com Interviews Manu Bennett at Comic Con

Image634489309933462885Manu Bennett stars as 'Crixus' in the Starz series Spartacus (which includes the prequel Gods of the Arena, Season 1 Blood and Sand, and Season 2 Vengeance), with each episode's production value and fight choreography easily standing up to any action film. Season 2 will find a new actor, Liam McIntyre, stepping in to play Spartacus due to health issues concerning the show's lead actor, Andy Whitfield (who was absolutely terrific in the role). And on the red carpet at the 2011 Syfy/E! Party at Comic Con, Bennett said that he misses Whitfield but McIntyre's Spartacus will also definitely impress the show's fans.

In our exclusive interview, Bennett also talked about the show's violence and sex scenes, the fight choreography (which was nominated for an Emmy), the scripts, and being one of the first shows to revive the swords and sandals genre

Antonio Te Maioha Picked For Writing Residency - Kapiti Observer 8 August 2011

Image

A gladiator has been named Kapiti Island’s writer in residence and hopes to write a children’s series.

Actor Antonio Te Maioha was chosen for the eight-week residency starting later this month.

Te Maioha, who formerly played Barca, a gladiator on US television series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, said it was fantastic news and it would be a privilege to be on the island. The emerging writer and ‘‘street’’ poet is also a co-presenter on Maori Television series Kiwi Maara about Maori gardening practices.

Te Maioha is the fourth writer to be chosen for the residency and will receive a $4800 stipend, funded by Te Waka Toi/Creative New Zealand, and be hosted by Kaitiaki o Kapiti Trust. Trustee John Barrett said he enjoyed the writers coming to the island.

‘‘They all bring something new and vibrant with them, each one of them has been great in their own way, so we’re looking forward to forming a relationship with Antonio and watch him make a contribution and hopefully receive something from the island as well.’’

Te Maioha plans to work on a series of stories for children featuring adventurous characters, Pango and Puki. ‘‘I’m pretty open to whatever the influence of being over there brings up for me as well.’’

Judging panel member Mei Hill said Te Maioha’s strengths were his appeal to audiences of all ages and his fluency in Maori language. ‘‘He has energy and versatility both as a writer and a performer – a combination that is not easy to achieve.’’

Trustee Minnie Barrett said it was the only residency created and run by Maori for Maori writers in New Zealand.

‘‘Kapiti has profound spiritual power which has inspired writers and artists for many years,’’ she said.

Last year’s writer Nuki Takao, who wrote two short stories in Maori for young adults about Kapiti, said the residency was ‘‘a dream come true’’ and going back to the mainland was the hardest part of the residency.

AfterElton Reviews The Spartacus TCA Panel

Michale Jensen, the editor of AfterElton, reviews the TCA Summer Tour.

Hey From the TCA! Trevor Donovan Rocks, J.J. Abrams Talks and "Spartacus" Loves Us!

The entire cast of Spartacus: Vengeance was here and I had the chance to interview almost all of them. (Dustin Clare disappeared prior to our chat. Boo!) At first was I was scheduled to interview the entire cast at once, which  I was willing to do, but frankly didn't want to do. I mean, would you want to stand in front of that much beef, beauty and brawn all at once and try to ask intelligent questions?

IMDB Blog Chats with Lucy Lawless at the TCA Summer Tour 29 July 2011 Minor Spoilers

“Spartacus: Vengeance” – A Chat with Lucy Lawless with IMDB Blog

**Interview contains MINOR spoilers***

The last time we saw Lucretia, the scheming Roman noblewoman played by Lucy Lawless in the Starz action series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” she had been run through by an escaping gladiator and was bleeding to death on the floor. Quite a difference from the good life she had previously enjoyed on the backs of slaves.

But nothing we’ve seen Lawless in before appears to be as psychologically challenging as Lucretia, a formidable woman who, in spite of her intimidating appearance, Lawless characterized as “a little fish swimming for her life with all of these sharks on every side.”

We sat down with the gracious New Zealand actress at the Television Critics Association’s Summer Press Tour in Los Angeles to ask her about what’s in store for Lucretia, whose main source of solace this season will be playing “vicious parlor games” with her enemy Ilithyia.

(You may want to watch the trailer first…and beware that this Q&A contains mild spoilers.)

New Message from Lucy - Win a Meet & Greet!

Received the following note from Lucy - she is raising money for Greenpeace and the Rainbow Warrior III - As many of you are aware the first Rainbow Warrior was sunk by the French in the 1980's and now Greenpeace want to launch another Rainbow Warrior. Lucy is a Greenpeace ambassador. More details about the auction as it comes to hand but here is Lucy's message:

I am auctioning a meet and greet as part of the Greenpeace Int'l auction to raise money for the Rainbow Warrior III. I am selling some artwork and personal jewelry. After all, it's not worth @#$! without a clean planet.

Auction is Aug 24 in NY.

I am on a mission to raise money so that the Rainbow Warrior III can battle 'The Oncelers', as Dr Seuss called them, that are raping our planet. A sustainable future is within our grasp. Evolve now!

Love, love, love,
Lucy

We've all had that moment (well some have and some haven't yet) when we meet Lucy Lawless and it's a wonderful experience. This young journalist met Lucy during the Comic Con press round table for the first time. I found her blog rather refreshing and honest.

Spartacus Season 03 To Feature Conan Stevens

The following is from Conan Stevens and he will be in Season 2:

I can now formally announce that I have signed with the Starz TV series SPARTACUS. As such I am now again in New Zealand preparing for my role during The Hobbit hiatus.

As a bonus today I recieved the six episodes of season 02 Spartacus - Gods Of The Arena to watch as background information. Not being a big watcher of TV personall, and not having access to the program at home in Asia this is the first I have seen of the series.

And I must say that I am impressed. I have watched episodes 01 to 04 straight with only breaks to cook food, and by the looks of it I will watch the entire season in one sitting - a very rare occurance, even for professional reasons.

Spartacus itself is another "jewel in the crown" of my credit list so to speak, in the last year now that is "Game Of Thrones", "The Hobbit" and now "Spartacus" - all pretty reputable Western credits that add considerable weight to my existing list....

Spartacus, the Roman period Action Drama TV series caught my attention mainly for the reasons (1) it is action/gladiator centered and (2) it is almost 'fantasy' based. Basically my niche, the area I have built my skill set to match.
